This Puka Shell is from Hawaii. It was my mom's when she was a teenager, and all the surfers wore them. Yes, she was a surfer (and a biker - LOL). Most of the things that you see out there that are called "PUKA" are not. They are usually oyster shell Heishi. These are genuine Pukas. Pukas are a small half round shell that is shaped like a miniature cup, and a properly strung Puka necklace should have all the shells facing the same direction, so they kind-of nest within each other formaing a nice snake appearance. Puka shells can be as large as 1/2", The shells on this strand of 123 shells are graduated in size from as small as 5/16" to about 7/16 at the center, and are considered medium. It's a beautiful uniform colored necklace of rich creamy white. Overall length of necklace is 18" of Shell.
